Do you have difficulty trusting yourself? If so, you are not alone. A lot of people tell me that they find it hard to trust themselves. Many of them are women, empaths, and/or survivors of abuse. Men tend to verbalize it less but carry it in the underlying energy that emerges from them in relationships.
I struggled with doubt for a long time too due to experiences that undermined the development of my sense of self in the formative years of life. I have dedicated decades to getting to the root of it and growing inner trust in its place.
Fortunately, it is never too late to discover, heal, and recover yourself. The personal course I undertook was intuitively guided by God in my heart at every step of the way. Now sharing the benefits of what I have learned from that has become the theme of my service to others.
The first lesson I received was the importance of becoming situated in a spiritual conception of the self. Culturing this understanding becomes well established by hearing the messages of Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam. Therein, the eternal identity of the self and how to revitalize it is thoroughly described.
The real self is the spirit soul living within the body. It is the spark of life force that animates the body and the mind. That spiritual spark emanates from the Supreme Personality of Godhead and bears its own eternal individual identity. Although the soul is an atomic particle of God’s energy, it is also a person – the real person who is the self.
Neither you nor I are the body, mind, or intelligence. We are not the personas we project or identify as in this world. All of those are coverings of the soul, like the clothes that we wear.
If, in fact, we were these coverings, then self-doubt would be well founded since the senses of the body and mind are imperfect and prone to make mistakes. They give much cause and reason not to trust them.
The soul, however, is intrinsically bright, full of knowledge, bliss, and beautiful qualities. Like a spark is to a fire, so the soul is to God. They are of the same nature in quality but different in quantity. God is the source upon which the soul emanating as a spiritual spark is dependent.
When the spark is in connection with the fire it shines brightly and serves its purpose. Only when it becomes separated from the fire does the spark fade. Similarly, the soul self in connection with God is illumined with its innate beauty and reason for being – to serve the Supreme Person from who it comes and for who it exists.
Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam detail that the soul is seated in the heart of every living being and is accompanied by a partial representation of God as the Supersoul (Paramatma). The Supersoul is by your side within as your infallible divine friend, guide, and witness.
Inner trust can therefore be secured by remembering your soul to Supreme Soul relationship and relying upon it. The ability to receive that guidance rightly and discern it from the dictates of the mind comes from purifying the consciousness through the process of devotional service, as described in Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam.
